Our Diagnostic Tests & Equipment

  • Echocardiograms are ultrasounds of the heart and are the gold standard test for pets with heart conditions. The echocardiogram is a noninvasive diagnostic tool with excellent diagnostic capabilities when properly performed
  • Echocardiograms are immediately interpreted by the doctor, ensuring accuracy in diagnosis by the most highly trained professionals available
  • Echocardiograms are performed with the family present (except in some emergencies).  As owners stay with their pets, and the ‘echo’ takes less than 15 minutes, results and images are available immediately
  • We perform over 21,000 echocardiograms annually and our doctors are experts at reading and interpreting the images
  • The latest human pediatric imaging equipment is used for an immediate and accurate diagnosis.  A treatment plan can be implemented the same day
  • Thoracic radiography can asses a patient’s lungs and may help identify why pets are coughing.  While they are not used as frequently as an echocardiogram to evaluate the heart, they do give an outline of the heart’s size and shape
  • Fluoroscopy is a video or moving x-ray of the heart. It enables the doctor to perform many procedures such as – Balloon dilation, or ductal occluders for patients with patent ductus arteriosus
  • Electrocardiography (ECG)  records the electrical activity of the heart and helps to diagnose problems with heart rhythm
  • Surgical intervention for correction of congenital cardiac defects as well as pacemaker implantation
  • Opportunities to participate in cutting edge cardiac drug trials and research

All of the partner practices within The LifeCentre are committed to compassionate, collaborative, comprehensive care.
